Chandigarh, July 2
Now, the penalty for not getting pet dogs registered will be Rs 5,000 instead of the earlier Rs 500. The UT Administration today issued the final notification in this regard.
The cost of the registration form has been raised from Rs200 to Rs500. The MC General House had approved the proposal for enhancing the penalty for non-registration of pet dogs in 2018.
As per the Chandigarh Registration of Pet Dogs Bylaws, 2010, it is mandatory for dog owners to register each pet at the Municipal Corporation office once the canine is four months old. Only two dogs are allowed per family.
The owner needs to ensure that a collar with a metal token issued by the registering authority is tied around the pet’s neck.
In case a dog defecates at a public place, the owner shall arrange to get the dog’s poop removed. Any registered dog straying at large will be seized and kept at a place set apart for this purpose.
For a repeat violation, an additional fine will be imposed, which may extend to Rs200. The fine was Rs20 earlier.
If the dog is detained under the bylaws, the owner will have to pay the maintenance charges of Rs1,000. Earlier, the charges for claiming one’s dog was Rs100 per day.
