Fortis Hospital, Mohali, in collaboration with Sahaayak, a support group for dialysis patients, held an event to mark World Kidney Day.

Emphasis was laid on the importance of early diagnosis in preventing kidney diseases.

Dr Amit Sharma, Senior Consultant, Nephrology, highlighted that chronic kidney disease (CKD) affected nearly 10 per cent of the global population, with India and China accounting for 35 per cent of the cases. He attributed the rise in CKD to diabetes, hypertension, obesity, aging, and environmental factors like air pollution.
