Ahead of the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the city has been decked up with lights and vibrant displays. Temples are all geared up for the momentous occasion tomorrow. The city markets are adorned with religious flags, garlands and colourful lights, resembling the festive spirit of Diwali.
“It’s like Diwali all over again for us. We’ve eagerly awaited this moment,” shares Reetika, a resident of Sector 27.
“Our homes will echo the joy of this occasion. It’s not just a ceremony; it’s a moment we want to celebrate together,” said another resident.
Major roundabouts have been illuminated and a replica of the Ayodhya temple erected in Sector 17 contribute to the grandeur of the celebrations. Diya sales have surged with residents engaging in bulk purchases, which is reminiscent of preparations of Diwali.
The demand for flowers has doubled. It feels like a floral wave has swept through the city. People are buying flowers in abundance to adorn their homes. “it’s a bloom of devotion and celebration,” expresses a flower vendor.
Religious processions were taken out at Panjab University and markets, showcasing the evident excitement among residents. Vehicles adorned with “Jai Shree Ram” flags are visible across the tricity, reflecting the widespread enthusiasm.
The city BJP, in collaboration with Shri Ram Kripa Sewa Trust, is preparing 15 tonne of desi ghee laddoos to be distributed throughout the tricity. City BJP vice-president Ramvir Bhatti said special boxes with Lord Ram’s image had been made.
