Repair work to hit water supply in Mohali, city

The water supply in various parts of Mohali will be affected in the coming days due to leakage in Phase 3 pipeline of the Kajauli waterworks.

The problem of leakage in Phase 3 pipeline, which brings 10 MGD water to Chandigarh, Mohali and Chandimandir, had been a recurring problem subjecting local residents to a lot of inconvenience. Mohali gets 2.5 MGD water from the pipeline.

  • As per the official, there was leakage in the Phase 3 pipeline near Shekho Majra village. “Due to repair work of the pipeline, the pumping of water would remain suspended,” he added.

According to Anil Kumar, Executive Engineer, Punjab Water Supply and Sewage Board, the water supply would be hit in various parts, including Sectors 70, 71, Mataur, Shahi Majra, Phase 9, 10, 11 and Phase 1 to 5 of Industrial Area for two days from tomorrow.

As per the official, there was leakage in the Phase 3 pipeline near Shekho Majra village. “Due to repair work of the pipeline, the pumping of water would remain suspended,” said the official.

Meanwhile, residents of Sectors 70, 71, Phase 10 and 11 alleged that they have been facing water shortage for past several days and this is regular problem.

Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Sector 70, said the water supply in their area had been irregular for over one week. “The situation is very bad in my sector. Whenever we contact the officials, we are told that repair work is on in Kajauli waterworks pipeline,” rued Gurdeep Singh.

Expressing similar sentiments, Samarpreet Singh, a resident of Phase 10, said the authorities concerned should take step for permanent solution for proper water supply in their area. This is a recurrent problem here, he added.
