The district administration has begun the Republic Day preparations, with tasks bring assigned to the departments to ready the venue, the Shaheed Major Harminderpal Singh Government College, Phase 6.
During a review meeting with all the departments, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aashika Jain said all participants from government schools should be provided with winter warmers before the dress rehearsals of cultural items during the chilly weather.
The District Education Officer (Secondary Education), Dr Ginni Duggal, meanwhile, proposed to increase the existing number of winter warmers from 1,500 to 2,000.
The DC, while allocating various tasks to the department heads, said collectively the event has to be a grand success.
Starting with the cleaning and repairing approach roads to the Republic Day venue, the ground and stage and other set-up, she emphasised refreshments and medical aid to the students during the rehearsal too.
Chief Minister Field Officer Deepankar Garg urged the officials to finalise the list of cultural performances. Similarly, the District Development and Panchayat Officer, Baljinder Singh Grewal, was asked to assist the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) in preparing tableaus based on the achievements/welfare schemes being run by the departments.
The full dress rehearsal has to be performed on January 24, 2025, at College Groun. “The students should also be given breakfast/refreshments on Republic Day before participating in the function and the food must be sampled by the Food Safety Officials,” Jain further said.
The DC also asked all the departments to send in names and details of their best-performing employees by January 10 to felicitate them for their extraordinary performance.
