A member of the Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (H-RERA), Nadim Akhtar, reported an identity theft and fraud involving the unauthorised use of his name and photograph.

The matter came to light when Akhtar discovered that a fraudster, used a mobile number to impersonate him and solicit donations for a purported cancer patient. The impersonator contacted real estate firms, one of the firms fell prey to the scam, transferring Rs 65,000 to the fraudster’s account.

A case was registered at the cybercrime police station.
