Mohali, September 7

A retired Sub Inspector of Chandigarh Police on Tuesday allegedly killed his 60-year-old wife by banging her head on floor repeatedly in their Phase-XI house here.

Suspect Kartar Singh, 65, locked the room from inside but was arrested from near the body of his wife two hours later. The deceased has been identified as Kuldeep Kaur.

Eyewitnesses said suspect Kartar was grieving on the blood-splattered floor near the body when police broke open the door. A case of murder has been registered against him.

In 2017, Kartar had shot at his brother-in-law who owned an eatery in Sohana. He had come out on parole recently. Sources said the suspect allegedly used to threaten his brother and wife often.

Sources said the duo was feuding over a court case in which the deceased’s wife was a witness.

The couple had been arguing since morning after their youngest son, employed in Mohali SSP’s office, left for work. When neighbours heard the commotion from the house, they informed the son to come and calm down the matter. He sent an acquaintance to inquire into the matter who later told him about the incident. The couple’s eldest son is presently in Australia.
