Chandigarh, October 20

Citing losses, the Cracker Dealers’ Association, Chandigarh, has again requested the UT Administration to review its decision on cracker ban and at least allow the use of green crackers.

Members of the association held a meeting today and decided to approach the UT Administrator and the UT Adviser and urged them to rethink and revise the orders of cracker ban in Chandigarh while taking into consideration the orders of the Rajasthan Government and other neighbouring states.

Association president Davinder Kumar Gupta and general secretary Chirag Aggarwal stated that on the demands of cracker dealers, the Rajasthan Government had amended their earlier order of a complete ban on firecrackers. “The government there allowed the use and sale of green crackers in the state. As per the orders, green crackers have been allowed on Diwali, Gurpurb and other festivals with restricted timings,” they stated.

Even as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal, the sale and use of green crackers could be allowed in cities, they claimed.
