The Ambala Division of the Northern Railways has opened passenger reservation system (PRS) counters to process the refund of tickets for the convenience of passengers. Refunding started since May 22 and till July 23 Rs 11.37 crore had been refunded against PRS tickets. A sum of Rs 9.87 crore has been refunded in cash and Rs 1.50 crore through POS digital payments.

To meet the requirement, Rs 10.65 crore has been provided till date over PRS counters. Apart from imprest provided to PRS counters, earning of Rs 2.73 crore from booking of PRS tickets was also made available for refund of tickets.

An official said, “As on July 23, earning of PRS location is Rs 5.09 lakh and refund only Rs 1.90 lakh. Now, the division has Rs 1.26 crore sufficient balance on hand in cash for further probable refund.”

In view of Covid-19 lockdown, regular passenger train services had to put on standstill up to August 12. As tickets booked through IRCTC were refunded by IRCTC per se through its own electronic means, tickets booked from Railway PRS counter needs to be refunded only at counter by depositing the original tickets only.
