MLA Kulwant Singh (AAP) today held a meeting with officials of the Municipal Corporation and assured them that repair and recarpeting of roads would be taken up soon.
“Owing to the unseasonal rain, the repair work could not be started on time. Soon, all major roads would be recarpeted and repaired,” the MLA said at the MC office.
On the issue of city bus service and non-operational bus stand, he said the bus service would be made operational within six months and it would start from the existing bus stand. “Negotiations are on to resolve the issue and make the existing bus stand functional,” he said, adding that a new bus stand would also be constructed near railway station at Kambali village.
The MLA said Rs 15 crore was being spent on equipping all roads with hi-tech CCTV cameras to keep tabs on traffic violations and crime.
Three-four new fire stations have been set up and an equal number are coming up. He also said the non-functional sports stadiums in the city would be made functional soon. They will make a stable arrangement so that their operations remain unhindered, he added.
Outsourced staff left in the lurch
Hundreds of outsourced employees of the Mohali MC were relieved of their duties on Tuesday evening. The employees said those deputed at the fire station and hospitals were not allowed to join the late night shift, saying their contract was till March 31 only. Sources said a new policy was in the offing and the government would re-employ the workers on new terms.
