Panchkula: Robbers attack driver with chilli powder, take away auto

The police have arrested four persons for robbing an auto-driver of his vehicle after throwing chilli powder in his eyes.

The suspects have been identified as Gurwinder, alias Guri (20), Sukhjinder, alias Ladi (23), both residents of Banur in Mohali district, Arshdeep Singh, alias Arsh (19), and Gurmanjit Singh, alias Harnoor (25), both residents of a village in Amritsar district. They were produced in a court today, which remanded them in four-day police custody.

The incident took place on June 29 around 2.15 am.

In a complaint to the police, Jaikumar, a native of Bihar and presently residing at a rented accommodation in Baltana, stated that three boys hired his auto from the Zirakpur-Patiala light point

  • As soon as they reached near the road separating Sectors 4 and 21, the boys asked him to stop the auto. On stopping the three-wheeler, he asked for rent. However, the three boys threw chilli powder in his eyes.
  • In the meantime, two bike-borne youths came there for the robbers’ help and all of them fled the spot on the bike and the auto. The complainant stated that they sped away towards Zirakpur.

Giving details of the incident that took place on June 29 around 2:15 am, the police said Jaikumar, a native of Bihar and presently residing at a rented accommodation in Baltana, had lodged a complaint that three boys hired his auto from the Zirakpur-Patiala light point for Sector 21 in Panchkula.

The complainant stated that as soon as they reached near the road separating Sector 4 and 21, the boys asked him to stop the auto. He said he stopped the auto and asked for rent. However, the three boys threw chilli powder in his eyes. In the meantime, two bike-borne youths came there for the robbers’ help and all of them fled the spot on the bike and the auto.

The complainant stated that they sped away towards Zirakpur.

On the basis of the complaint, a case under Section 395 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the unknown boys at the Sector 5 police station.

With the help of CCTV footage, a team of the detective staff of the Panchkula police arrested four of the five suspects yesterday and recovered the auto.

The police sought the suspects’ remand to arrest their accomplice besides recovering the motorcycle used in the crime.
