HS Lucky, chief spokesperson, CTCC, said the petrol and diesel prices had now touched a new high. Prices of petrol had risen by Rs27 and that of diesel by Rs25 in the past 13 months. Fuel prices had been increased 47 times during this period.

The protesters, including activists from the Congress, the NSUI, the Youth Congress, the Mahila Congress, the Seva Dal and INTUC, made a human chain. Carrying placards, they raised slogans against the BJP-led Central Government. They demanded immediate rollback of the hike in fuel prices.

Subhash Chawla, president of the city Congress, said the Modi government had failed on all fronts. — TNS
