Roundglass Hockey Academy win meet
The Roundglass Hockey Academy (RGHA) claimed the inaugural edition of the Punjab Hockey League for the junior age group, edging past Surjit Hockey Academy PIS, Jalandhar, on goal difference after the completion of the league matches at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar.
In the final league match, the RGHA, which needed a win to confirm the title, breezed past the SGPC Hockey Academy, Amritsar, 6-0 after runners-up Surjit Hockey Academy beat PIS Ludhiana 11-1 to climb on top of the table earlier in the day. In the end, both sides finished with 23 points from 10 matches, but the RGHA with their superior goal difference of 30 against 22 of the Surjit Hockey Academ were crowned champions of the league. Namdhari Sports Academy finished third.
The academy received a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and the winner’s trophy, while Surjit Hockey Academy received Rs 1 lakh. Third-placed Namdhari Sports Academy were awarded Rs 50,000.
Varinder Singh of Roundglass Hockey Academy was declared the best player of the league, while Jarman Singh of the RGHA received the best forward award. Gursahil Singh of Surjit Hockey Academy received the best goalkeeper award, while Navraj Singh of Namdhari Sports Academy was adjudged the best full back and Sukhdev Singh of SGPC Hockey Academy, Amritsar, best half back of the league.
