Rs 1.70 lakh stolen from car in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Mani Majra resident Bachittar Singh reported that an unknown person stole Rs1.70 lakh from his car parked near Krishna Book Store, Sector 19 C, on August 14. A case under Section 379 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 19 police station. TNS

Theft reported from Sector 25 house

Chandigarh: A Sector 25 resident reported that an unknown person stole her bicycle, a mixer and an iron from her house on August 16. A case under Section 380 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 11 police station. TNS

Chandigarh: Abhishek Jindal, a resident of Sector 16, reported that an unknown person stole his car parked near Bitta Petrol Pump in Mani Majra. A case under Section 379 of the IPC has been registered at the Mani Majra police station. TNS

Nine booked for rioting, assault

Chandigarh: Prahlad Sharma, a Sector 48 resident, alleged that Sukhpal Bhullar, Avtar Singh, Jagpreet Singh, Neeraj Gupta, Bablu, Harpreet Singh, Gandhi, Ranjeet Singh and Kailash, all residents of Motor Market, Sector 48, indulged in rioting, unlawful assembly, causing voluntarily hurt and criminal intimidation on Sector 48 market association members. A case under Sections 147, 149, 323 and 506 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 49 police station. TNS

Youth ‘injured in mishap’ found dead

Fatehgarh Sahib: The Bassi Pathana police have recovered the body of Balbir Singh, a resident of Khalaspur village, from a drain on the outskirts of Bassi Pathana town. He was reported to be missing from his village last week. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Harminder Singh said Nirbhay Singh, brother of the deceased, had reported that Balbir had gone to work on August 12 but did not return home. During investigation, an acquaintance of the victim told the police that Balbir was hit by a speeding car when he came out of a langar venue at Talania village. The occupants of the car took him along telling the people gathered there that they were taking him to a hospital. He suspected that the occupants of the car might have thrown him into a roadside drain where he died. The police have registered a case. OC

Pillion rider killed

Fatehgarh Sahib: A pillion rider was killed and another severely injured in a road accident near Pine Grove Public School on the Bassi Pathana-Morinda road on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Gobind Kumar and the injured as Vishal Kumar, both residents of Tibba village in Ludhiana district. They were going to pay obeisance at the Naina Devi shrine in Himachal Pradesh when a truck coming from the opposite direction hit the bikes they were riding. Gobid died on the spot. The police have arrested the truck driver. OC
