Ruchi claims badminton gold in 30+ category
First Women’s Badminton Championships for Non-Professional Women concludes
Ruchi Kapoor won the top position in the women’s 30+ years category by defeating Anshu Payal on the concluding day of the 1st Women’s Badminton Championships for Non-Professional Women at the Sector 38 Sports Complex.
Deepika Sharma and Amita Sharma claimed the joint third positions.
Ruchi recorded a 21-16 win over Anshu to win the final. Saroj Meena posted a 21-7 victory over Monika to win the women’s 40+ years’ event, while Seema Sharma and Geeta shared the third position.
In the women’s 50+ years final, Surinder Kaur faced a tough competition from Seema Sharma before logging a 21-17 win for the title. Asha and Harminder Kaur claimed joint third position. Bnalwainder Kaur Asha Sharma 21-12 to win the women’s 60+ years final. Kamaljit Kaur and Santosh Rani claimed joint third position. Vajindra Kumar, IAS, President, Chandigarh Badminton Association and Saurabh Kumar Arora (PCS), Director Sports, Chandigarh Administration, awarded the winners.
The championship was organised under the aim to ‘Fit India’ movement and in order to promote females to adopt a sport for a better lifestyle.
On the concluding day, a special yoga instruction session was conducted for all participants, encouraging them to include yoga in their daily routine for better fitness and flexibility.
An exhibition match was also played between Chandigarh’s National players, which entertained the audience, said Surinder Mahajan, former international coach.
