Days after an assault on doctor at the Zirakpur Community Health Centre, an incident of ruckus was reported at the Civil Hospital in Dera Bassi in the early hours on Sunday.
Around 15 persons in two groups clashed with each other inside the emergency ward around 3 am, creating panic in the hospital. In the clash, chairs, other furniture items and fire extinguishers were hurled at each other. Agitated youths misbehaved and scuffled with hospital staff when they tried to intervene. The clash continued for around 10 minutes as patients and attendants ran for safety.
Doctors and paramedic staff told the police that following a clash in Zirakpur, around 5 persons, including a woman, came here for treatment. Meanwhile, a group of 10-15 persons followed them and started arguing with them. The arguments soon turned into a brawl, they said. The hospital watchman claimed he had gone to the other building for some work.
On the complaint of Senior Medical Officer Dharminder Singh, a case has been registered against Zirakpur resident Nihal and 15 others at the Dera Bassi police station.
Dera Bassi SHO Mandeep Singh said, “An FIR has been lodged under Sections 221, 324 (3), 190, 191 of the BNS and the Punjab Prevention of Damage to Public and Private Property Act. We are investigating the matter.”
Earlier on September 9, two youths assaulted a medical officer while trying to flee with injections from a storeroom of the Community Health Centre in Dhakoli.
