Chandigarh: RWAs, market associations showcase community spirit in ‘Tiranga Pratiyogita’

Aiming to promote patriotism and community spirit among Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Market Welfare Associations (MWAs), the Municipal Corporation conducted ‘Tiranga Pratiyogita’ among participating 14 RWAs and 11 MWAs.

Young kids in Sector 51 here participated in a colourful programme, dressed up as freedom fighters, singing national songs and reciting slogans and poems. Similarly, in Sector 38 a unique handmade sheet paper meshing and creative selfie point featuring a peacock was the highlight.

In Sector 22 RWA, women took the centrestage by performing a play on the importance of the Tricolour and its pride for Indians. In Sector 27, three creative selfie points were made from waste material like ice cream sticks and buttons and set up for men, women and children promoting sustainability and patriotism. In Sector 33, children showcased their artistic skills with handmade drawings for Independence Day, using rice, pulses and paints.

The MWA, Sector 22, displayed the Tricolour on a big scale along with pictures of freedom fighters. Eco-Tricolour arts were displayed, besides beautiful tricolor-based lighting and distribution of flags among visitors. In Sector 24, Vande Matram was displayed through beautiful rangoli colours and floral décor along with a flag.

MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra said the ‘Tiranga Pratiyogita’ had not only promoted patriotism, but also fostered community spirit, with RWAs and MWAs coming together to showcase their creativity and enthusiasm.

MC holds ‘Tiranga Yatra’

Celebrating India’s 78th Independence Day, a massive ‘Tiranga Yatra’ with members of city self-help groups and officials of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was taken out on Monday.

The yatra was led by MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra. The event was set off at the central plaza, Sector 17, and in other markets of city. The participants marched towards the Sector 22 market and the rally terminated with a return march to the MC office building, Sector 17, Chandigarh. She urged the people to share their photos along with the National Flag on the official website dedicated to the campaign.

BJP takes out rally

Raising slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, the city BJP took out a rally under ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign here at the Sukhna Lake today.

Party president Jatinder Pal Malhotra led the rally, which had a number of party leaders participating in it. Carrying national flags, BJP leaders walked on foot and encouraged people to hoist the Tricolour at their homes.

The rally started at 6 pm and went on till late evening. Party leaders greeted walkers and other visitors during the rally and also distributed flags among people.

1,200 students take part in admn rally

The UT Administration conducted a grand rally on Monday, comprising 1,200 students from various schools and colleges in the city. The rally, held under the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, culminated at Urban Park in Sector 17, where students showcased a series of cultural performances.
