Israel’s Sabrina Kalandarov continued her impressive run in the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors (Grade III) tournament as stunned eighth seed Jiaqi Huang of China in straight sets to seal a spot in the girls’ singles final at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here today. Sabrina, who had accounted for second seed A Simone of Italy in the quarterfinals, edged out Jiaqi 6-3 6-3.

In the final, Sabrina will face country-mate Mika Dagan Fruchtman. Sixth seed Mika prevailed 6-3 7-6(9) over Belgium’s Jullettee Bovy.

Martin, Raphael in final

In the boys’ singles semifinals, Belgium’s Martin Katz upset top seed Jean Marc Malkowski of Switzerland in a see-saw battle that lasted over an hour.

Katz won the opening set 6-3 but Malkowski was able to reverse the scores in the second set. However, Katz regained his composure and sealed the decider 6-3 to set up the title clash with his Belgium counterpart Raphael Collignon.

Fourth seed Collignon recovered in time to overcome second seed Han Chih Lin of Chinees Taipei in the semis. After losing the opening set 5-7, Collignon won the next two sets 6-2 6-2 to stay in contention for the title. — TNS
