A Mohali court has sentenced a dismissed cop to life imprisonment in a 2022 case related to the murder of a woman and destruction of evidence.
A fine of Rs 40,000 was also imposed on the convict, ASI Rashpreet Singh. The court had held him guilty on September 8 and pronounced the quantum of sentence today.
On November 13, 2022, Naseeb Kaur, 23, a nurse, had gone missing from her paying guest accommodation. Her body was found in a Sohana village pond the next day in mysterious circumstances.
Rashpreet and the victim, an Abohar native, were friends for a long time.
On the statement of the victim’s father, a rape and murder case was registered against unidentified person.
During investigation, Rashpreet, a Sector 86 resident, was arrested. Rape charges were not proved, but the court convicted him of murder and destruction of evidence.
