The Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress today traded barbs over corruption and logding of false FIRs against the supporters of the former.
While senior SAD leaders protested against alleged wrongdoings of Ghanaur MLA Madan Lal Jalalpur, including his involvement in illegal mining and registration of a false cases against the SAD workers, Jalalpur claimed that the SAD has lost its mandate in villages and as a result, targeting him.
Senior SAD leader and former state minister Bikram Majithia said Jalalpur has been terrorising the SAD workers and has not even spared women members of thier families. “I know that the Patiala SSP is an honest officer, but I think in this particular incident, which took plave in Takhtu Majra village, where a woman died due to Congress leader’s involvement, no justice has been done,” he said.
He asked the SSP to withdraw the false case immediately and said once an Akali-BJP government returns to power in Punjab, it would take action against the police officials who have been registering false cases against their workers.
“The government has created lawlessness in the home town of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. Even routine work is done after paying bribe. The incumbent legislators are backing illegal lottery mafia in Rajpura and liquor mafia in Patiala,” he said.
Nearly a month ago, two political factions entered into a brawl, which resulted in death of a woman who died due to medical negligence at Takhtu Majra village.
While the SAD leaders claim that a faction led by MLA Jalalpur had terrorised villagers, Jalalpur said the Akalis were unnecessarily politicising the issue.
Senior Youth Akali Dal leaders Harinderpal Chandumajra, Sukhman Sidhu, Amrinder Bazaz and Harpal Juneja said four Congress MLAs had accused their own government’s failure to stop corruption in Patiala district. “While officials named by them were shifted, no further action has been taken against any of the corrupt officials. This shows the state of affairs in the state.”
Jalalpur said Sanaur MLA Harinder Pal Chandumajra and his father ex-MP Prem Singh Chandumajra have been instigating the villagers.
“Acting as responsible leaders, they should have ensured have tried to sort out the differences between both the factions. Instead, they are trying to blame me for the violence,” said Jalalpur.
“Our government is working for overall development of the state. Akalis will face the music in Bargarhi incident and soon justice will be done,” he said.
