Saini announces Rs 216 cr subsidy for cow shelters

In addition to the fodder subsidy, Saini launched a grant distribution scheme offering Rs 800 for bulls, Rs 600 for cows and Rs 300 for calves caught and brought to shelters. These measures are part of the government's broader strategy to promote self-reliant cow shelters and improve the welfare of cows across the state, he said.

The CM also outlined a range of new initiatives to make gaushalas more sustainable. The government plans to encourage the installation of biogas plants in shelters, providing technical support for producing biogas from cow dung. Gaushalas will also receive help in producing and marketing eco-friendly products like cow dung paint, phenyl, soap, and shampoo.

CM Saini emphasised on the expansion of infrastructure for gaushalas, with solar power plants already installed in 330 shelters. The remaining shelters will soon receive solar installations, while electricity is provided at a subsidised rate of Rs 2 per unit, he added.

The CM also detailed plans for tracking and improving cattle health. All cows, bulls, and calves will be tagged, and their data will be made available online. He also highlighted the promotion of indigenous A-2 milk production through the Gau Samvardhan and Gau Sanrakshan Yojana.

It was also told that since 2014, Haryana's budget for cow protection has grown from Rs 2 crore to Rs 510 crore and the number of registered cow shelters has increased from 215 to 683, housing nearly 4.5 lakh cows.
