The staff of private aided schools have announced to boycott Teachers’ Day functions on September 5 and wear black badges in protest over non-payment of their salaries.
Resentment prevails among the managements and staff of private aided schools as the government has not sanctioned grants for the aided staff since April, resulting in non-payment of salaries.
The staff demanded immediate release of grant or they would be forced to resort to agitation. While talking to The Tribune, Dharminder Singh, Principal, Khalsa Senior Secondary School, and Anju Kaura, Principal, MG Ashoka Girls Senior Secondary School, Sirhind, urged the government to release the grant promptly so that their long-pending salaries could be paid.
Manish Mangi, president of Ashoka Educational Trust that runs two government aided schools, said the Directorate of School Education (Secondary), in a letter to managements, demanded balance sheets for the past three years and details of bank accounts, which were irrelevant. He said they had submitted the bank accounts details, but the grants were still not being released on one pretext or the other.
