Samarth bags twin table tennis titles

Samarth claimed twin titles on the concluding day yesterday of the first Chandigarh State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament at the Sector 50 Table Tennis Hall, Sports Complex. In the men’s final, Samarth overpowered Sahil 11-6, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9 to win the title.

In the semifinals, Samarth recorded a comeback win over Ankush 7-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9, while Sahil ousted Pritish 11-9, 12-10, 8-11, 11-9. Ankush defeated Neelesh 14-12, 11-5, 11-5, Samarth outplayed Krish 11-7, 11-3, 11-13, 11-7, Pritish defeated Vadya 11-6, 11-5, 11-7 and Sahil ousted Bhavya 11-7, 11-9, 11-7 in the quarterfinals.

Samarth also won the boys’ U-19 final by overpowering a tough challenge by Vadya. He started with an 11-6 win, but trailed in the next two 7-11 and 9-11. Samarth made a comeback later in the match by logging an 11-8, 12-10 victory over his rival. In the semis, Vadya defeated Kairav 11-8, 11-7, 11-8 and Samarth overpowered Pritish 11-8, 2-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-7. Earlier, Kairav defeated Vishal 11-7, 11-13, 11-9, 7-11, 12-10, Samarth ousted Vihaan 11-3, 12-10, 11-9, Pritish defeated Aditya 11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 11-6 and Vadya outplayed Neelesh 11-3, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7 in the quarterfinals.

Teetiksha won the women’s title by defeating Vani. In a see-saw battle, Teetiksha recorded a 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-4 win. In the semis, Teetiksha defeated Pelf 13-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-6 while Vani overpowered Cherrish 9-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8. Pelf won the girls’ U-19 final by defeating Vani 11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9. In the semis, Pelf defeated Cherrish 11-8, 11-4, 11-6 while Vani had overpowered Teetiksha 11-6, 11-5, 10-12, 5-11, 12-10.
