Sample collected from Mohali unit goat meat, shows Animal Husbandry department report

The sample collected from the kitchen of a Mataur-based unit preparing street food, most notably momos, is goat meat, a report by the Animal Husbandry department has revealed.

Sharing further details, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Komal Mittal said an inspection at the said house where momos were being preparing was carried out after getting an intimation about certain violations. During the inspection, it was found that there was a grave violation of hygiene and sanitation.

Besides taking the samples of food items and ingredients, around half kg of meat was also recovered and handed over to the Senior Veterinary Officer by the Food Safety and Municipal Corporation teams for ascertaining its origin.

As per the report of the animal husbandry experts, the meat in question was about half a kg in weight with the dimensions of ten inches and six inches. Minute examination of the sample showed that it was goat meat.

The Deputy Commissioner further said action against the vendors preparing/cooking food in unhygienic and filthy conditions will continue through Food Safety and Municipal Corporation teams.

The inspections will also continue to safeguard the interests of general public.

VB inspects outlets

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on the instructions of the state government has initiated a joint inspection and surveillance drive in Kharar. The VB said the operation, led by the Mohali unit and the Food Safety Wing under the supervision of the District Health Officer, aimed at to enforce strict compliance with food safety regulations. During the surprise inspections, the joint team visited food manufacturing units, food vending stalls, restaurants, and hotels in Kharar. Five premises were inspected, resulting in the issuance of one unhygienic challan and the collection of five food samples. They have been sent to the lab for detailed analysis, he added.
