Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon expressed dismay over the recent notices issued by the UT Administration to city residents, mandating the installation of solar panels within a two-month timeframe.
Tandon criticised the mandate as both unreasonable and authoritarian, warning that non-compliance could lead to the confiscation of properties. He remarked, “It is incomprehensible how the Administration can divest residents of their properties which they purchased with their hard-earned money, simply due to their inability or unwillingness to install solar panels. The notion that a person could lose a property worth crores over a solar panel costing Rs 3-5 lakh is both illogical and unacceptable.”
He emphasised the need for the Administration to reconsider these orders, suggesting that they could explore more innovative and flexible solutions instead of imposing rigid mandates on residents.
Tandon said, “Many residents may not be able to afford such an expense upfront, may be unable to repay loans, or may not even reside in the city currently.” He urged the Administration to adopt a more consultative approach.
