Says state government committed to building a Swachh PunjabCapt announces welfare initiatives for Mohali

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh announced a series of welfare and development initiatives for Mohali during the state-level Republic Day function at Government College, Phase 6, yesterday.

The Chief Minister announced the setting up of a new sewage treatment plant (STP) in Kharar and an Integrated Waste Management System for disposal of waste in the region.

“These initiatives are part of our government’s commitment to build a Swachh (Clean) Punjab,” Amarinder said after hoisting the Tricolour.

He also announced a new Rs 5-crore project, Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Tripari village in Kharar, for which the land has been gifted by the gram panchayat. “The project will promote vocational training and create an employable youth force to power the state’s progress in the coming years,” he said.

Besides, Mohali will also have a new market committee to facilitate smooth and hassle-free procurement and to market the farmers’ produce, the Chief Minister said.

He said the state had attracted Rs 57,735 crore investment in past over two years. “Under the ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar te Karobaar’ scheme, nearly 11 lakh jobs have been given to unemployed youth in Punjab so far,” he claimed and added that for quality education, the state would have 19 new IITs and medical colleges in Mohali, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur soon.

11 cops get CM’s Police Medals

As many as 11 police officers received the Chief Minister’s Police Medals in recognition of their outstanding performance and discharge of duty with utmost sincerity, dedication and commitment. Besides, the Chief Minister also honoured a total of 43 prominent personalities for their exemplary services in different fields. Amongst freedom fighters Swaran Singh and Gurdeep Singh were honoured.

Capt Amarinder Singh also paid tributes to Shaurya Chakra recipient Major Harminder Pal Singh by placing a wreath in the memory of the son of the soil, who displayed inspiring leadership, exceptional courage and unparalleled bravery while fighting the militants in Jammu and Kashmir and made supreme sacrifice in the highest traditions of the Army.

Amongst various contingents of schools that participated in the march past, the Mai Bhago Preparatory Institute for Girls bagged the best contingent award.

Earlier, as many as 10 tableaus from different departments/agencies depicted the overall development and various welfare schemes of the state government, amongst which the tableau of Employment Generation Department was adjudged the best.
