Councillor Saurabh Joshi has demanded the complete dissolution of the enforcement wing of the MC, calling it the “epicentre of corruption”.
The demand followed disclosures by an MC enforcement employee, Vikas, who had alleged that officials were collecting Rs 4–6 lakh per month in bribe, intimidating staff, forcing them to sign blank papers and coercing him into recording a false retraction under pressure.
In a representation to Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, Joshi sought a CBI inquiry into the ‘scandal’, along with the suspension and transfer of all enforcement wing officials named by the employee to prevent misuse of authority or tampering with evidence. He further pressed for strict criminal and disciplinary proceedings against those found guilty.
He urged that the MC’s enforcement powers be transferred either to professional private agencies or to Central paramilitary forces like ITBP, CRPF, CISF, BSF or SSB to ensure impartial enforcement and curb the menace of corruption in street vending.
