Screening plants in Burj Kotia raided, records seized
The Special Environment Surveillance Task Force conducted a raid today on screening plants near Burj Kotia that were allegedly polluting the Ghaggar. The raid, led by representatives of Panchkula DC Monika Gupta, DCP Himadri Kaushik and a Sessions Judge brought to light multiple environmental violations.
The task force, which also included the regional officer of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board, found that several plants had been discharging untreated waste into the Ghaggar. The unchecked pollution pose a serious threat to the river ecosystem and nearby communities.
During the inspection, officials seized records and collected water samples for analysis. The authorities are expected to take strict action against the defaulters, including imposing of penalties and sealing non-compliant units.
