Seal PG in Sector 32, demands FOSWAC

Chandigarh, February 23

The Federation of Sector Welfare Associations (FOSWAC) demanded the authorities to seal the Sector 32 PG accommodation, where three girls lost lives in fire yesterday, during its executive body meeting here today.

Baljinder Singh Bittu, Chairman, said in the absence of a policy for the PG accomodations in Chandigarh, several unwanted and illegal activities were taking place. “Many such accommodations are housing even five to six occupants in a single room,” he said. He sought a judicial inquiry into the incident. He said the accomodations, where the owner family was not staying, should be sealed with immediate effect.

Mayor Raj Bala Malik also condoled the tragic death of three girl students. She spoke about the condition of roads in Chandigarh and assured the audience to start the road repair/ re-carpeting work at the earliest.

RS Gill, president of the Householders Welfare Association, Sector 8, spoke about the stray dog menace in Chandigarh.

Dr KS Chaudhary, president of the Sector 38 RWA, complained of garbage dump in Dadu Majra.

Amardeep Singh, president, RWA, Sector 39, said the Chandigarh Housing Board kept harassing its occupants by sending notices of demolition. He advocated for one-time settlement of violations. — TNS
