Sec 26 college eves continue winning streak in hockey

After a see-saw battle, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College (SGGS), Sector 26, recorded a 4-3 win over Chandigarh Hockey Academy (CHA-Red) during the Chandigarh State Junior Men and Women Hockey Championships at the Sector 42 sports complex today.

Pooja netted the opening goal in the second minute to put the academy team ahead by converting a penalty corner. However, Gurmail netted a stunning field goal to level the score for the Sector 26 team. With the score at par, both teams struggled to score goals. In the 33rd minute, Gurmail put the Sector 26 team ahead by scoring another field goal. In the 40th minute, Kajal made it 3-1 for the Sector 26 team, followed by another goal in the 43rd minute.

Having a three goal lead, the Sector 26 eves started keeping the ball possession. However, Ranjot (57th) and Tamanna (58th) scored two goals in quick succession to put the Sector 26 defence on the back foot. At the final whistle, the score remained unchanged.

In the second match, CHA Blue toppled Panjab University Hockey Club 8-0. Ratanjeet (3rd, 16th) scored two goals to start for the Blue team, and thereafter Manpreet (19th, 27th, 36th) scored three goals. Sapna (38th, 47th) and Tanu (44th) also helped the side log easy win.

In the boys’ category, Panjab University Club outplayed Sector 42 Centre 8-0. Rohit opened the team’s account in the 9th minute, while Prince (9th) doubled the lead. Vikas (15th, 19th) extended the lead to 4-0, and Prince (22nd, 24th) scored two more goals to make it 6-0. Amit (36th) and Nishant (44th) netted a goal each to finish the match.

In another match the Sector 26 Club defeated CHA Blue 4-1. Kudrat (3rd), Joban (20th), Sanjay (35th), Rohit (37th) and Prabhjot (43rd) scored a goal each for the winners, while Harkaran (57th) pulled one for the CHA team.
