Sector 109 T-point unlit, poses risk

The Sector 109 T-point on the Kharar-Banur-Ambala road has become an accident-prone zone with frequent mishaps being reported here.

A busy intersection with fast-moving vehicles and no traffic lights or police personnel, negotiating it is fraught with danger. To make matters worse, the spot is not properly lit in the absence of streetlights.

Road users say several patches on the road remain dark, increasing the risk of accidents as also crime, with the area becoming a safe haven for anti-social elements.

“The issue of lighting on the Kharar-Banur road needs to be addressed. It is causing frequent accidents with drivers failing to spot other vehicles. The area is especially hazardous for two-wheeler riders,” says Samandeep Singh, a Sector 109 resident.

Locals says GMADA should mull the feasibility of creating roundabouts at danger spots or installing traffic lights to regulate traffic in an effective manner.

For speeding vehicles, a road divider near the Bhago Majra market (from Sector 109) poses risk as it appears abruptly, taking drivers, especially those overtaking, by surprise. No signboard has been put up to alert drivers approaching the road median.

“Accidents can be averted if grills are installed at medians to prevent pedestrians from crossing the road in dark spots and thus getting hit by fast-moving vehicles,” says a resident. Students of a government middle school, located alongside, are at a great risk during daytime.

The population in the area has mushroomed in the recent past, increasing the probability of pedestrians and two-wheelers getting involved in accidents. The main road is also full of potholes and at some places, shoulders are missing, giving a bumpy ride to road users, says Mona Singh, a Sector 109 resident.

DSP City-2 Harsimran Bal says: “Police presence has been increased in areas having secluded spots.”

Two bikers killed on November 26

On November 26, two persons had died while another suffered injuries after a speeding truck hit their bike near Saneta. The deceased were identified as Khanpur Bangar residents Gurnam Singh, 33, and Gurcharan Singh 25. Rajinder Singh sustained leg injuries. The truck was coming from the Banur side and heading towards Kharar.
