Security guard stabbed to death in Dera Bassi

Two bike-borne youths allegedly stabbed a 45-year-old security guard this morning, while he was on his way to Dera Bassi from his village, Rampur Behal.

The victim, identified as Karambir Singh, was coming to Dera Bassi with a woman, when the assailants stopped his bike on the Gujran road, attacked him with knives and fled the spot.

Two nabbed

Karambir was rushed to the Civil Hospital at Dera Bassi, where doctors declared him dead. The body has been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem.

After the murder, irate village residents staged a demonstration outside the police station, seeking the arrest of the suspect.

A case in this regard has been registered at the Dera Bassi police station. Initially, Dera Bassi SHO Mandeep Singh said the police was probing the matter, and scanning the CCTV footage of the area to identify assailants.

The police have managed to arrest two accused in this case. They initially arrested Bhinder Singh, a resident of Samgauli, on the charges of murder. Subsequently, second accused, identified as Vikas Kumar, was also nabbed in connection with the stabbing incident. The police have cited old rivalry between the victim and accused as a potential motive behind the murder.

The victim, who was employed as a security guard in Bhankharpur, is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.
