Held for non-appearance in court, former cricketer Sehwag’s brother files bail plea
A week after he was arrested by the Chandigarh Police for non-appearance in a local court here, Vinod Sehwag, brother of former cricketer Virender Sehwag, moved the sessions court to get bail.
Vinod was arrested in a case registered in the Manimajra police station under Section 174 A (punishes people who dont appear in court when required), IPC, in 2023.
The police registered the case against Vinod and two others on the complaint of an ASI of the PO summon staff of the Chandigarh Police.
The complainant said Krishan Mohan Khanna, proprietor of Shree Naina Plastics Industries, Baddi, filed a complaint against Vishnu Mittal, Sudhir Malhotra and Vinod Shewag of Delhi, all alleged directors of Ms Xalta Foods Beverages Pvt Limited before a local court.
As per the complainant, the cheques issued by the accused company were dishonoured by the bank with remarks insufficient funds. During the proceeding in the court, the accused persons remained absent and they were declared proclaimed persons by the court.
The complainant company, Shree Naina Plastics Baddi, filed a petition before the Punjab and Haryana High Court for directions to register an FIR under Section 174-A of the IPC against proclaimed persons, including Vinod. The police registered the case against them.
The police arrested Vinod on February 28, 2025 . In the bail application, Vinod denied allegations claiming he had been implicated in the case. He said he had no role in the company. The police acted in haste to arrest him He has also challenged the summoning order before the sessions court.
He said non-appearance before the court was neither intentional nor willful as he was availing legal remedy. The court has fixed the next hearing of the bail application for March 10.
