A seminar on “Migration Trends in India” was organised by the United Nations International Organisation of Migration (UN-IOM) in collaboration with Don Bosco. Among others, it was attended by Norbu Negi, Dy Secretary and Protector of Emigrants, Ministry of External Affairs; Stanley Jones, COO for Don Bosco; and Reji Tom Anthony, Director, Don Bosco.

Addressing a gathering of recruitment agencies from the region, Amit Chowdhury, Project Officer, UN (IOM), said India received the highest remittance globally, amounting to almost 3% of India’s GDP in 2020. The foreign remittances last year were at $83 billion.

Negi said, “Citizens must visit www.emigrate.gov.in and check for the agent’s name on the list. If you do not find the name listed on the website, but find an agent promising you a job outside India, immediately report him to poechd@mea.gov.in”. — TNS

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
