The general house meeting of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation today witnessed high drama over allegations of BJP councillors of not being invited at the inauguration functions of the projects completed under MPLAD fund scheme. The chaos was also seen when councillors of Aam Aadmi Party raised the issue of restructuring of the Senate and Syndicate of Panjab University.

The issue of not inviting the local councillors at the inauguration functions of projects under MPLAD works was raised by BJP councillor Gurbax Rawat. Congress councillor Sachin Galav alleged that he was never invited to the functions organised in his ward when former MP Kirron Kher came to inaugurate projects under MPLAD funds.

However, the ruckus started soon after BJP councillor Saurabh Joshi took away the name plate placed on the seat of Manish Tewari MP in the house. As soon as Joshi took away the name plate, Sachin tried to snatch it. This led to a free-for-all scene for over 10 minutes.

Damanpreet Singh and other councillors also raised the restructuring issue of the Punjab University, which was first reported by The Tribune. However, the Mayor did not allow the discussion by saying that the issue was not related with the MC.
