Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Sona Thind celebrated New Year with senior citizens at Senior Citizens Home in Sirhind yesterday. Addressing the gathering, DC said, “Senior citizens are assets of the society. We can learn a lot from their experiences.”
She urged them to help the administration in implementing various public welfare schemes and in the war against social evils. She said despite old age senior citizens still looked energetic and full of enthusiasm. She said, “Old age does not disqualify a man from hard work. Rather senior citizens are beacon of light for society and play a constructive role in guiding youth to stay away from social evils like drug addiction, female foeticide and demanding dowry.”
The DC offered services of the district administration to help senior citizens whenever required. She said they would be given representation in implementing various schemes.RN Sharma and Prof Ashok Sood highlighted projects being initiated by senior citizens and problems faced by them. They said, “We hope that problems raised by senior citizens will be sorted out soon.” Anil Attri, Tarsem Khullar, Satpal Puri and Ravinder Puri also addressed the gathering on the occasion.
