In another case of violation of rules, the Government College of Art, Sector 10, here has completed the admission process for its Master in Fine Arts course without the grant of extension of affiliation by the inspection committee constituted by Panjab University, its affiliating body.
The PU had appointed a three-member inspection committee on June 4, 2024, “to consider the grant of temporary extension of affiliation for MFA, 1st and 2nd year (40 seats each), and Advance Diploma in Fine Arts for Divyang (four seats) to the Government College of Art, Sector 10, Chandigarh, for the session 2024-25.”
According to the spokesperson for PU, college principal Alka Jain did not contact the committee to fix a date and time for its visit. “If the college administration does not get in touch regarding this with the inspection committee or the PU authorities, the university will decide on the action to be taken against the college authorities,” a senior PU professor said.
According to the admission schedule of the college, the classes for MFA and Advance Diploma in Fine Arts for Divyang (aided) are to start from August 12.
As per a letter issued by the PU’s Colleges Branch and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Colleges, the inspection report duly certified by all members of the committee had to be submitted to the university within seven days and a copy of the same handed over to the college principal. The committee members are Prof Anil Monga, (Chairperson of the Inspection Committee), Centre for Police Administration; Prof Tirthankar Bhattacharya, Department of Art History and Visual Art; and Prof Jagtej Kaur, Department of Art History and Visual Art, all from PU.
The principal was unavailable for comment.
