‘Sevadar’ arrested for molesting minor at Panchkula gurdwara

The police arrested a man for allegedly molesting a nine-year-old girl at a gurdwara in Sector 15.

A woman from Panchkula, in her complaint to the police on September 23 stated that, on September 20, her nine-year-old daughter had gone to the gurdwara with her sister.

When the child went to the washroom, the man, said to be a gurdwara sevadar, allegedly molested her. After reaching home, the girl narrated the incident to her mother. On receiving the complaint, the Sector 14 police registered a case under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and launched a search for the accused, who was arrested on September 24.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srishti Gupta informed that the medical examination of the victim has been completed and counselling was being provided to her through a legal aid counsellor. The accused has been sent to judicial custody today.

“Panchkula Police is working on a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and children. Swift and strict action is taken in such cases to ensure justice for the victim and to strengthen public confidence in law and order,” the DCP said.
