Around seven tenements near the Lehli police post in Lalru were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire on Thursday afternoon around 4.30 pm. Though no loss of life has been reported so far, residents lost all their household goods, documents and valuables in the blaze that engulfed the area within minutes.

Fire tenders from Dera Bassi and a few private industrial units were rushed to the spot and managed to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Local residents were left in shock and despair, rendered homeless in mere minutes. An inconsolable woman, who lost all her belongings, recalled, “Everything finished in front of my eyes as I tried to pour all the buckets I could find but could not save my house. All the documents of my children were burnt in the fire, we have nothing left now.”
