Chandigarh, January 13

In view of the severe cold conditions, the UT Administration has decided to suspend physical classes up to Class VIII in all government, government-aided and recognised private schools till January 20. This precautionary measure is aimed at ensuring the safety of children by minimising their exposure to the extreme cold.

During this period, schools are advised to encourage online classes for these students. For students from Classes IX to XII, schools are permitted to open, with classes starting not earlier than 9:30 am and concluding no later than 4 pm. However, schools are urged to consider the cold spell, particularly during the early morning and late evening hours, as well as the commuting time for students. The timing adjustments are aimed at providing a balance between educational continuity and the well-being of students.

Additionally, schools have been granted flexibility to regulate staff timings accordingly. — TNS
