SFS members protest, want access to library for all students
Chandigarh, June 15
Members of the Students for Society (SFS) alleged harassment by the Panjab University authorities, despite the latter allowing research scholars to use libraries.
“The authorities have turned library into a cantonment for the past three days. Students want to access the library, but are not allowed to enter. We condemn such attitude. We will continue our protest,” said a statement by the SFS.
The student political party, which earlier demanded opening of libraries for research scholars, now raised issues for allowing access (to the AC Joshi Library) for all students.
The protesting SFS supporters had a heated argument with PU security guards. A video surfaced on the social media, wherein one of the persons was seen approaching a woman security guard aggressively, while the SFS campus president was seen pulling him back.
“Yes, this happened today. However, no official complaint has been lodged,” said Vikram Singh, chief of the PU security. He said a similar incident took place on Monday and a security guard was injured.
DSW SK Tomar said he was not aware of any such incident. He would inquire about it tomorrow. — TNS
