The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) members and other farmer organisations staged a protest across multiplexes in the city to oppose the screening of Kangana Ranaut’s film, “Emergency”, here today.

Around two dozen protesters raised slogans against the actor, demanding the cancellation of the film’s screening at multiplexes including CP-67, Bestech Mall and Mohali Walk.

Rajinder Singh Tohra, manager of Gurudwara Amb Sahib, said they had requested the administration officials yesterday not to screen the film here. The film was not screened anywhere in the district.

“Kangana Ranaut’s anti-Sikh stance is well-known. Last night, all the posters and publicity material was taken off from the malls,” he said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP, City-2) Harsimran Singh Bal, meanwhile, said, “The protesters were informed that the film was not being shown anywhere in the district so why protest. They left the Phase-8 mall peacefully. Adequate police personnel were deputed at the malls in the morning.”
