The temporary relocation of samples from the Anatomy Museum to a residential area on the PGI campus raised local residents’ suspicion, who lodged a complaint with the Sector 12 police post, alleging shifting of human organs to certain houses. The museum is under renovation.

The PGI authorities issued a statement clarifying the situation. It reads: “The temporary relocation of museum samples outside the research block perimeters was done in order to facilitate the renovation of the Anatomy Museum. During this time, the non-hazardous study material that is regularly utilised by students for educational purposes has been safely and securely stored in accordance with proper protocols.”

According to the complaint, a group of unidentified people arrived at the houses in separate vehicles, including an ambulance bearing registration number CH01GA3036. They were allegedly seen entering House No. 1, 2, and 15 of the Type-C quarters. They were suspected of keeping human organs and other related items in those houses. The unusual activity was first observed by local women, who later brought it to the attention of other residents.

The complainants expressed concern over health hazard due to the shifting of the material to residential area. They reported a foul smell emanating from the area, which, they feared, could be harmful, especially to children and elderly persons. They emphasised that the residential quarters should not be used for any purpose that jeopardises public health and safety.

Taking into consideration the concerns of the local residents, the PGI authorities shared, “Although everything was done in accordance with proper protocols, in response to the concerns raised by residents of the area, a decision has been taken to relocate all specimens to another alternative place.”

The PGI authorities reassured the residents that no illegal activities were taking place. However, locals remained watchful and urged the administration to ensure better communication and transparency in the future to avoid such concerns.
