Shivjit, Anjali win TT titles
Shivjit Singh Lamba overpowered a tough challenge by Sarthak Seth to win the men’s singles title on the concluding day of the North Zone Table Tennis Tournament of Indian Audit & Accounts Department, organised by the Principal Accountant General (Audit) Haryana, at the Sector 23 TT Hall.
Lamba lost first two sets 4-11 8-11, but bounced back in the third with an 11-6 win. In the next set, he was again down 6-11. However, he made a terrific comeback by logging 11-7 11-7 11-7 wins in the next three sets. Earlier, in the semifinals, Delhi’s Seth recorded a stunning win over Harsh Srivastava. Seth recorded an 11-7 3-11 8-11 11-5 11-9 11-8 win over Srivastava. In the second semi, Lamba defeated Gautam Dhruvansh of Uttarakhand 9-11 7-11 11-3 11-7 11-8 8-11 11-5 to march into the final.
Delhi’s Anjali Rohilla won the women’s final by defeating Punjab’s Tamanna Saini 16-12 9-11 11-9 11-4 11-8.
The pair of Piyush Pujara and Rohan Sahani from Haryana won the men’s doubles final by recording an 11-8 12-14 12 11-4 11-4 victory over Abhishek Jaggi and Adhish Rana oif Himachal Pradesh. Earlier, in semis, Jaggi and Rana defeated Haryana’s Ankush Kapoor and Manpreet Singh 11-9 7-11 11-7 9-11 3-11, while Pujara and Sahani defeated Abhinav Belwal and Nakkash Mehra of Punjab 11-9 11-8 11-7. Dharamvir Singh, former Hockey Olympian, and others awarded the winners.
