Shooters participating in the All India Inter University Shooting Tournament expressed unhappiness over conducting some events at an under construction range at Phase 6 in Mohali. The championship is being hosted by Panjab University. The participants of the 25m sports pistol event were clearly not happy with non-availability of electronic (scoring) targets and officials munching snacks while moving around the restricted area during the event.

The event was conducted at the 25m range which is not even levelled and is under construction for a while now. Also, at the 50m range, pillars coming in between targets and shooting platform troubled some shooters, as they the termed them as “hindrance”. Electronic targets are there for the 50m and 10m (indoor) events.

“The range is under construction, which can be seen with a naked eye. They must have had automatic targets...just like the 10m and 50m range. Big heaps of sands in the range and behind targets are not ideal to host such events,” said a shooter of the Punjabi University, Patiala. Another shooter said, “Many international shooters are participating in this championship. It could have been better, if the authorities concerned picked a better venue for hosting 25m events.”

Love for ‘chai’ and ‘bread pakoras’

Notably, while shooters were marking their target, officials were savouring “chai” and “bread pakoras” without having felt the need to manage their hunger till the event was over.
