Shopowners booked under child labour law

The UT police have booked shop owners under the Child Labour (Prohibition And Regulation) Act and the Juvenile Justice Act after three juveniles working on their premises were rescued.

Three juveniles employed at shops in Sector 19 and 20 were rescued during a joint inspection conducted by the UT Labour Department and the Child Welfare Committee on January 21. However, a case was registered yesterday.

A 15-year-old boy was rescued from Sadar Bazar, Sector 19, a 14-year-old from Laajawab food point in Sector 19 and a 10-year-old boy from Sehgal Cloth house, Sector 20.

A DDR in this connection had already been lodged at the Sector 19 police station.

However, cops received a formal complaint from Labour Inspector Ram Phal Kataria, following which a case under Sections 3 and 14 of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act and Sections 75 and 79 of the Juvenile Justice Act was registered against the owners of the three shops. — TNS
