Shorter route to Mohali airport: Estimate exceeds Rs 100 crore, MHA nod sought

To streamline travel to Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali, the UT Administration has sent a proposal for a shorter route to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for its approval.

UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit today chaired a meeting in this regard. The proposal has been sent to the MHA for its financial approval since the project cost exceeds Rs 100 crore. The land acquisition process, estimated to take over six months, will commence therafter.

The UT recently issued a notification for the acquisition of 35 acres of land for the shorter route under its Negotiation Policy and offered a compensation in the range of Rs 2.54 crore to Rs 3.34 crore per acre. The landowners, however, sought acquisition under alternative policies. A total of 51 acre to be acquired, of which 39.6 acres fall in Chandigarh and 12 acres in Punjab’s Jagatpura and Khandala villages. — TNS
