Shots fired outside residence in Hallo Majra, two nabbed

In a swift breakthrough under the City police’s ongoing drive against anti-social elements, two individuals were arrested shortly after an armed attack outside a residence in Hallo Majra.

The incident, which occurred on the intervening night of July 10-11, saw the assailants opening fire at a local resident's home before fleeing the scene.

The arrests were made under the supervision of Inspector Rajiv Kumar, SHO of Police Station Sector 31. The accused, identified as Vinod (38) of Phase II, Ram Darbar, Chandigarh, and Hardev Singh (33) of Mankiya village, Panchkula, were apprehended within hours of the offence.

During the search, the police recovered one pistol and one country-made firearm (desi katta) from the duo.

The case, registered under various Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 and the Arms Act, was filed on the complaint of Amit Jaiswal, a resident of Deep Complex, Hallo Majra. According to Jaiswal, he heard gunfire around 12:50 am after returning home. Upon investigating the noise, he spotted a masked individual firing shots at his house and later in his direction. As he stepped outside, he saw two men fleeing the scene through an adjacent empty plot.

Vinod, a chair maker by trade, has a long history of criminal activity, with multiple cases registered against him under IPC Sections relating to assault, intimidation and arms offences. In contrast, Hardev Singh, a carpenter by profession, does not have any known prior criminal record.

Both accused are scheduled to be presented in court on July 12.
