It’s astonishing to know that the UT is considering to increase the timings for bars and pubs in the city —from 1 am to 2 am. This will certainly add to the nuisance being created by drunkards. The number of incidents of violence in and outside bars and pubs across the tricity are increasing by the day. The UT Administration must rather think on the lines of the decision of Mohali to shut all liquor-serving joints in Mohali and Zirakpur after midnight. Pubs and discotheques must not be allowed to operate beyond midnight even on the weekends. CCTV cameras should be installed on the entrances of all such joints. Also, the police should enforce deployment of private security guards and bouncers at the party places.

Compensation for dog-bite victims

Those who are bitten by stray dogs should be given compensation. Sometimes, victims can’t even go to work for a long time. Free treatment doesn’t serve the purpose, penalty should be imposed on the department concerned and given to victims.
