Sindoor Khela marks Durga Puja festivities

On the auspicious occasion of Maha Dashami, the finale of Durga Puja was celebrated with great fervour, excitement and with great hope and deep emotion as Maa Durga retreated back to her abode with the eternal promise to come back again.
The traditional function was held at Banga Bhawan in Sector 35 with Dadhi Karma Puja, Darpan Bisarjan and the most endearing Sindoor Khela, where married women attired in their spotless white and red bordered sarees celebrated the age-old ritual spreading everlasting message of happiness, bonhomie living up to the true traditional values of Bengal’s rich culture.
Bangiya Sanskritik Sammilani president Dr Amit Bhattacharya said after the immersion procession at Ghaggar river, all devotees returned to Banga Bhawan to get ‘shanti jolly’ (sprinkling of holy water) with each and every one wishing Shubh Bijoya and pray for universal peace and happiness. Sammilani general secretary Col Deepak De (retd) stated that the organisation had been preserving and celebrating this tradition in the city for the past 53 years, making it a cherished part of the region’s cultural fabric.
